Class schedule for Winter 2026

childbirth education Johnson City TN

Happy New Year, mama-to-be!

I hope you’re wrapped in cozy blankets during these crisp winter airy days. Winter is a great time to settle in and prep for your upcoming birth. Fresh beginnings, quiet reflection, and intentional planning for the rest of your pregnancy, the birth, and your postpartum experience. I would love to join in on your journey in motherhood as an independent childbirth educator. I’m not employed by a hospital system so I’m able to teach what I think matters the most to families today. Independent childbirth education matters more today than ever before. The contents of my classes aren’t written by hospital administration or lawyers or social media algorithm. My students learn the full spectrum of options of delivering at home with their midwife or at the hospital. My content comes from what I’ve witnessed with my own eyes as a student midwife and doula for over 8 years. I’ve worked in 5 different hospitals and with 6 different Certified Professional Midwives at home. At this time, I’ve attended 140 births. For the last 15 years, I’ve supported postpartum families and helped them with their breastfeeding goals. I’ve listened to birth stories and seen how it effects their mothering. After all that time what I’ve seen work best is developing relationships with families to learn their goals and teach classes during pregnancy.

I encourage you to learn about childbirth NOT through the lense of “how to be the best patient” and an 8 second reel that induces fear. Social media can be a great avenue for families to share their birth stories and that’s amazing. I love to see it. But the algorithm is going to push content to you that’s sensational, not necessarily true. I read a lot of “always” and “never advice online. Birth is a wild ride. How can we possibly predict outcomes? The path we take to birth our babies is meant to take us on a journey. Walking a path with absolutes can sometimes make those “always” and “never” feelings appear and we might need to reconsider. Sometimes things shift and change unepectedly. We are dynamic, so are our goals. Our preferences and our histories. I have a wide variety of clients who come from different walks of life. One person’s “always” is the next person’s “never.” And kids will make you a liar everytime. haha! I swear, they’re taking notes! Waiting for that perfect moment to remind us that they are actually key players in this too. Even though babies don’t speak English yet, they let us know their preferences if we listen. Anyways… Welcome to motherhood! You’re in excellent company. The best way to prepare for these unexpected turn of events is to become educated prenatally. Childbirth education is vital!

Knowing what to expect, having realistic expectations, feeling prepared for variations and the decisions you may have to face. These are all things that are my goals for you attending my classes. I’ve created these classes with structure and layered learning. I’ll give you personalized guidance. There’s time and space to ask questions. I’ll respond to your questions as best as I can, but sometimes the answer is “I don’t know.” Because that’s the nature of birth! Because I’m still learning new things at every single birth I witness. It’s a miracle every single time!

Private classes

Private childbirth classes are my favorite way to dive deep into your unique hopes, concerns, and birth plans. This is a great option for parents who need a more flexible schedule. Weekday evenings and weekends are available in January and February. These classes are in your home. We can focus on general childbirth education (home or hospital), coping with the sensations of labor, newborn care, postpartum recovery, and feeding the baby.
