placenta pills
The placenta During pregnancy:
The placenta is a temporary endocrine organ designed by the baby during pregnancy. It’s the only organ that our body grows for a specific purpose and discards upon task completion. The placenta is recognized as the baby’s organ with multifunctional duties: nutrition, oxygenation, cleansing of toxins, and metabolism. The placenta brings oxygenated blood to the fetus. It becomes responsible for producing some of the hormones that support the pregnancy. It removes the baby’s waste and brings nourishment through the umbilical cord.
The 5 functions of the placenta:
Barrier: The placenta acts as a protective barrier to prevent an abundance of maternal ingested toxins from reaching the fetus.
Respiratory: The placenta’s function in relation to respiratory is that the placenta brings oxygenated blood to the fetus.
Endocrine: The placenta becomes partially responsible for producing some of the hormones that support the pregnancy. The placenta is a temporary endocrine organ.
Excretory: The placenta is responsible for removing the waste created by the fetus.
Digestive: The placenta is responsible for bringing nourishment to the fetus through the umbilical cord.
Birth History
Placenta remedies are an important part of birthing history. Taking the placenta as a powder, particularly in the first nine months after giving birth is an old custom. There is documentation of dried placenta being prescribed as a remedy in Europe dates back to the 1700’s. Nearly all mammals consume their placenta, even herbivores. The placenta is considered powerful and sacred by many cultures. Today’s placenta encapsulation process is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine. The pharmaceutical and homeopathic remedies from placenta tissues are similar to stem cells with their potential healing effects. They have had a long tradition in medical treatments around the world. Native Hawaiians were outraged after placentas were legally declared infectious waste in 2005 because of fears that stem cells would be harvested from them without consent.
Hormones present in the pre-processed placenta
Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG): A precursor to estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone.
Prolactin: The hormones responsible for promoting breast milk production.
Oxytocin: Stimulates uterine contractions. Prompts the let down reflex to aid in breastfeeding. Contributes to the maternal/child bond.
Human placental lactogen (hPL, also called Chorionic Growth Hormone): Helps support fetal nutrition even in the case of maternal malnutrition. Higher levels are noted in women with multiple gestations.
